Ticks
Deer Tick There are four types of ticks found in Virginia. The Deer Tick is found in Eastern Virginia and is particularly troublesome since it can carry Lyme Disease. This disease, if untreated, can lead to serious problems. They are very small and hard to detect. As you can see, the adult Deer Tick is the size of the letter "M" on a dime. According to a recent lecture by a Virginia Tech Extension Agent*, the best way to protect yourself from ticks is to wear long pants, tuck your pant legs in you socks and then spray your legs with DEET.
