Lime

What type of lime should I apply (pellet or powder) and when?

Before applying lime (either type) you should get a soil test done (Soil Testing) or otherwise you will not know how much lime to apply or even if any needs to be applied.   How much lime you apply will depend upon the current pH of your soil and is highly dependent on the type of planting you are doing.  For example, blueberries require a pH in the 4-5 range while asparagus requires a pH in the 7.2 range.  Powered lime is faster acting while the pellet is probably easier to apply.  Please note that it takes up to 3 months after applying pellet lime for it to properly adjust the pH of the soil.  You should follow the directions on the package for applying the lime you choose.

The following reference gives a very detailed explanation of applying lime.
