African VioletsCenter growth became stunted, dried-up and died. African violets are very sensitive to dryness; use lukewarm water at the base of the plant; water on the leaves will cause spotting. Do not leave the plant in standing water. What to do about powdery mildew and insect scale on stems of all African violets (indoor plants)? Isolate the affected plants. Use toothbrush or cloth to remove as many scales as possible. Powdery mildew is a common affliction for African violets, especially this time of year. It is smart to treat it early to keep it from becoming an insidious problem. The quick easy fix is aerosol Lysol antibacterial spray. Mist the area around the violets, allowing it to drift onto the plants. It will spot the flowers but not the foliage. Reference(s): |
